What is Charm?

A charming person is never petty or petulent - rather she is one who is genuinely interested in people and activities. Charm gives an automatic radiance that magnetizes and, to my way of thinking, is the true essence of beauty. Instead of fading with the passage of time, the charm of a personality grows with the years. One could even call charm a self-developed talent, for it reflects individuality, intelligence and warmth of spirit. Almost anyone can achieve charm - its ingredients are really only self-discipline and thoughtfulness. Enid Haupt

Enid A. Haupt, a foremost horticultural philanthropist in America, in case anyone was wondering.. :)

Nice quote above. Agreed except on 2 counts: That it is a 'self-developed' talent and the ingredient of 'self-discipline'.

Rather, read this through the lens of the verse below.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)

I have never yet met a believing believer that I am not charmed by! :D

Being in the presence of a charming woman is like being drawn into a magic circle where everything is fresher, cleaner; where ther eis peace, warmth, comfort. Her smile is occassional rather than constant, make one want to bring it back. The charming woman puts a man on trial in the sense that she produces in him the desire to be his best. Alec Waugh, novelist

Wow.. what do you think?

But it works equally the other way as well. We feel good about ourselves after being in the company of a charming person.

There's a difference between beauty and charm. A beautiful woman is one I notice. A charming woman is one who notices me. John Erskine

Short and sweet and some!

As you can see, some quotes are obviously made by men. Let's not get sexist about it :D, but does serve as an insight to the male psyche. :)

Charm: the quality in others that makes us more satisfied with ourselves. Henri-Fréderic Amiel

We are all born charming, fresh, and spontaneous and must be civilized before we are fit to participate in society. Judith Martin

Charm is a glow within a woman that casts a most becoming light on others. John Mason Brown

A plain woman is one who, however beautiful, neglects to charm. Edgar Saltus

No one has it who isn't capable of genuinely liking others, at least at the actual moment of meeting and speaking. Charm is always genuine; it may be superficial but it isn't false. P. D. James

Charm is more than beauty. Yiddish proverb

There is no personal charm so great as the charm of a cheerful temperament. Henry Van Dyke

Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
